Open Question: Camping in the Lake District?

A group of about 10 of us want to go camping in the Lakes. All 18+ but looking for somewhere that we can have fun and not be kicked off for making the slightest noise. No luck so far, everywhere seems to want to make clear that they are 'family run'. If we could, we would just go to a random field-but a bit wary of camping on someone's farm!! Is just setting up camp wherever we like illegal? And also-how much is this going to set us back for one nights stay, 10 people, 2/3 tents, 1 night? Any help is much appreciated x
