Open Question: How would I take my dog on a long nature hike camping trip?

I'm likely going to be going on a long hike across a few states and I'm think its going to take a couple of months to do. I want to take my dog with me, but I'm not sure how I would make sure that he's fed. Would i have to pack a few bags of dog food??
