For backpacking and just general outdoor use? I was thinking I would go with something like an Underarmor Heat Gear T-shirt as a base layer(I figured a cold gear would be to much), a Marmot Zeus Down Jacket on top of that, and then a hardshell North Face Venture coat on top of the Zeus to break the wind and keep rain off me. I've heard some people say you are better off with a fleece shirt under your hardshell though, is this true?
